Hearth for the Homo-Cellular

(2022 for Dutch Design Week)

This project was feature at DDW22 and Night of the Nerds 2023

Hearth for the Homo-Cellular is a resting place designed for Dutch Design Week 2022 that allows visitors to regenerate energy for themselves as well as their cellular prosthesis’ (cellphones). Inspired by people congregating around power outlets to charge their mobile devices, I wanted to highlight the absurdity of our times with a fun installation which encourages discussion about how we live today.

More information can be found below or at the official Dutch Design Week website: https://ddw.nl/en/programme/7774/hearth-for-the-homo-cellular

Research for the installation.

Rendered proposals for the Dutch Design Foundation.

The installation had three layers of intentions with the design. There is first the functionality of charging phones; however, due to the organization of elements, an intimate space is created between those who are sitting at the installation. By participating in the installation, the participant becomes the performer which hopefully attracts the attention of others to engage with the scene and conversation.
